Daniel Promislow

Senior Scientist, HNRCA, Tufts University
Daniel Promislow has worked on the biology of aging for more than three decades, starting with his work in the comparative evolutionary biology of aging as a graduate student at Oxford University. Following postdoctoral training in Canada and the United States, in 1995 he joined the Department of Genetics at the University of Georgia. In 2013, he moved to the University of Washington as Professor in the Department of Pathology, and in 2024 joined the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University as Senior Scientist and Scientific Advisor. Throughout his career, Dr. Promislow has studied why individuals age differently and how this variation shapes lifespan and healthspan. His research integrates evolutionary biology, quantitative genetics, and systems biology to uncover the genetic and environmental factors that influence aging in genetically diverse populations. Dr. Promislow has published more than 200 scientific articles and is a Member of the Academy for Geroscience, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Fellow of the American Aging Association, and a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. He is Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Dog Aging Project, a nationwide longitudinal study of tens of thousands of companion dogs across the United States. The project seeks to identify the genetic, environmental, and biological factors that drive healthy aging, using the remarkable diversity of pet dogs to gain insights that may ultimately improve healthspan in both dogs and humans.
