David Furman
Professor and Director, Buck Institute for Research on Aging
Professor David Furman is an academic entrepreneur committed to addressing societal and scientific challenges within the human exposome, systems medicine, translational immunology, preventative healthcare, aging biology, and precision longevity. As the Director of the Stanford 1000 Immunomes Project (Stanford University) and Associate Professor and Director of the Bioinformatics and Data Science Core at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, Prof. Furman leads research leveraging multi-scale biology ("omics") platforms and advanced AI/ML methodologies in human cohorts. With over 15 years of specialization in exposomic mechanisms driving age-related chronic inflammation, his multi-domain expertise spans brain aging, cardiovascular health, metabolic disease, and functional aging (decline in intrinsic capacity). A central focus of Prof. Furman's work addresses the limitations of current aging biomarkers, which are often imprecise, costly, and insufficiently actionable, contributing to inaccurate estimates of biological aging and widening disparities in healthspan and lifespan. His research aims to develop the most accurate, actionable, and accessible biomarkers of aging, guided by a mission to democratize longevity by making high-quality biological aging assessments affordable and available to all. Prof. Furman has published over 70 scientific articles in top-tier journals including Cell, Nature Medicine, PNAS, and The Lancet, has collaborated with NASA and SpaceX, and is the inventor of over 20 patents.
