Copenhagen Longevity
& Sustainability Declaration
11th ARDD

Longevity and sustainability share numerous challenges and opportunities and are intrinsically connected. As the world's population increases and consumption grows, especially in developing countries, the need for longer, healthier lives becomes more critical. If we desire extended lifespans, we must ensure that the world we live in is sustainable and resilient.

Both longevity and sustainability goals can be achieved through conservation and technology. This involves sustainable development, recycling, waste removal, and regeneration. Multi-factorial tracking systems and AI can improve the measurement and management of both aging and environmental pollution, enhancing the effectiveness of interventions and identifying new technologies to remove waste, repair damage, and regenerate ecosystems and human health.

While environmental sustainability has the Paris Agreement to guide global efforts, the longevity industry lacks a clear set of goals. This declaration aims to align the longevity industry with the sustainability objectives of the Paris Agreement and establish specific goals for promoting longevity.

Affirmation of the Paris Agreement
The undersigned parties affirm their commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement and the declarations of the Conference of Parties (COP) on climate change. The primary goal of the Paris Agreement is to limit the global temperature increase to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. To achieve this, greenhouse gas emissions must peak by 2025 and decline by 43% by 2030.
Goals for the Longevity Industry
Recognizing the interdependence of environmental sustainability and human longevity, the following goals are set for the longevity industry:
  • By 2030:
Slow down the rate of biological aging by 50%, using industry-standard aging clocks, achieving an aging rate of 0.5 years for every year lived.
  • By 2050:
Slow down the rate of aging by 75% and restore vital functions, including cognitive abilities and sensory function, by 50%.
Action Plan
To achieve these goals, the signatories commit to the following actions:
  • Innovation
    and Research:
    • Invest in research and development of technologies that target aging at the cellular and molecular levels.
    • Promote interdisciplinary research that integrates insights from biogerontology, biology, environmental science, and technology.
  • Public Health
    and Education:
    • Increase public awareness about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and its impact on longevity.
    • Implement educational programs that promote sustainable living practices, which in turn support healthier aging.
  • Policy
    and Regulation:
    • Develop and enforce policies that support longevity research and the application of its findings.
    • Collaborate with international bodies to harmonize regulations that facilitate the global exchange of knowledge and technology in the field of longevity.
  • Sustainable
    Practices:
    • Encourage the adoption of sustainable practices in all sectors, including agriculture, industry, and healthcare, to reduce environmental impact and promote health.
    • Implement waste reduction and recycling programs that contribute to a cleaner environment and better public health.
  • Equity
    and Access:
    • Ensure equitable access to longevity-promoting technologies and healthcare across different populations and regions.
    • Address social determinants of health that contribute to disparities in life expectancy.
  • Monitoring
    and Evaluation:
    • Establish robust monitoring systems to track progress towards the goals of reduced aging rates and restored vital functions.
    • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and adjust strategies based on data and scientific advancements.
Consolution

The Copenhagen Longevity and Sustainability Declaration calls for a unified effort to achieve a future where longer, healthier lives are lived in a sustainable and resilient world. By aligning the goals of longevity with those of environmental sustainability, we can ensure that our pursuit of extended lifespans does not compromise the health of our planet.

Signatories to this declaration commit to working collaboratively to achieve these ambitious goals, fostering a future where both people and the planet can thrive.
